ART MANAGER: program scope and focus

The program centers on practical arts management: from idea and concept development to budgeting, pitching, partnerships, and communication strategy for cultural projects.

Lecturer and casework

  • Katya Taylor — curator and cultural projects lead with 14+ years of experience.
  • Founder of Port of Culture.
  • Collaborations: Yorkshire Sculpture Park, British-Ukrainian Chamber of Commerce, EBRD, French Institute.
  • Projects with USAID, Ukrzaliznytsia, 1+1, Comfy, Vogue, Helen Marlen, UNICEF; HeForShe Art Week (UN Women).
  • Author of “Art Turnkey: Management and Marketing of Culture”; curates the Odesa International Film Festival art program.

ART MANAGER: who it suits and who it does not

Suitable for

  • Artists and creative professionals — to structure project portfolios and collaborate with institutions and brands.
  • Brand managers, marketers, cultural workers — to design culture-related initiatives and partnerships.
  • Business owners and managers — to engage in collaborations with the arts and develop reputation-driven projects.

Not suitable for

  • Those expecting theory only without real-case analysis.
  • Those seeking instant outcomes or guaranteed employment.
  • Those not planning to apply arts management tools in practice.

Arts management problems → workable directions for the ART MANAGER

  • Unclear funding → tools for grants, sponsorships, partnerships; budget and cost planning basics.
  • Scattered processes → project pipeline, timelines, team roles and responsibilities.
  • Weak pitching → presentation structure, value proposition, arguments for business and institutions.
  • Inconsistent promotion → communication strategy, media and partner integrations.
  • Narrow network → ethics of collaboration with artists, curators, and sponsors.

Comparison with alternatives in art management

  • Self-learning: flexible but fragmented; high time cost for curation and systematization.
  • Short workshops: provide tools for specific topics; limited breadth.
  • Academic programs: theoretical depth; longer timelines and lower practical tempo.
  • This ART MANAGER program: structured course with focused modules, real cultural cases, and practical assignments.

Expected competencies and outcomes for the ART MANAGER

  • Building project ideas, concepts, and roadmaps.
  • Budget planning, cost sheets, and basic financial documents.
  • Funding search: grants, sponsorships, partnerships, collaborations.
  • Team organization and operations across project stages.
  • Pitching and articulating value to businesses and institutions.
  • Developing communication and promotion strategies for cultural projects.
  • Collaboration ethics with artists, curators, and stakeholders; network development.

Note: the application of tools and level of acquired competencies depend on the participant’s own practice.
